Rajkot Land Fraud Complainant Alleges Police Pressure To Settle ₹1.17 Crore Dispute

A Rajkot man who approached the police over an alleged land fraud has now accused personnel of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of pressuring him to settle the case with the accused. Kishor Babiya has alleged that PSI A.S. Galchar and ASI R.M. Malek repeatedly called him to the EOW office and kept him waiting for hours, while allegedly pushing him towards a settlement.

Babiya has now approached the Rajkot Police Commissioner, seeking an impartial probe and alleging misuse of official authority.

Complaint Linked To ₹1.62 Crore Land Deal

The dispute relates to a land transaction involving around ₹1.62 crore.

According to Babiya’s complaint, an agreement to sell land in Pipaliya village was reached in 2019. He alleges that after the agreement was notarised, the amount specified in the agreement, apart from the amount reflected in the official document, was not paid.

The complainant has named Narottam Tarpada, Bhikhu alias Bhikha Natha Akbari, Yuvrajsinh Jadeja, Hiren Hapaliya, Hemant Tarpada, Bhagwanji Bhalala, Shantagauri Bhalala and Dilip Bhalala, among others, in connection with the alleged fraud.

Investigation Shifted To EOW

Babiya said he initially approached the Police Commissioner regarding the alleged fraud, following which the matter was assigned to Kuvadva Police.

The investigation was later handed over to EOW PSI A.S. Galchar.

The complainant alleges that over the past eight months, he was repeatedly summoned to the EOW police station and made to sit there for around four to five hours at a time.

He further alleged that police officials pressured him to settle the dispute with the accused for ₹20-40 lakh, despite the disputed amount being around ₹1.17 crore.

Babiya has also alleged that he was threatened with a complaint against him if he refused to agree to the proposed settlement.

Complainant Seeks SIT Probe, CCTV Footage

In his representation to the Police Commissioner, Babiya accused the officials of allegedly misusing their authority and sought an independent investigation.

He has requested that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) be formed to examine his allegations.

The complainant has also alleged that a person named Harshit Jani was acting as a middleman during the police proceedings. He has sought examination of CCTV footage from the EOW police station covering the past eight months, claiming it could help establish the circumstances in which he was allegedly kept at the station and the interactions that took place.

Court Rejects Anticipatory Bail Plea

Meanwhile, Narottam Tarpada’s anticipatory bail application was recently rejected by a court.

Babiya has claimed that the court, while passing its order, observed that a prima facie case of breach of trust and cheating appeared to exist.

The allegations made by Babiya against the police officials are yet to be independently established. The matter will depend on the outcome of any inquiry initiated by the police department and the evidence gathered during the investigation.
