Rajkot: Festivities turned tragic in Rajkot district after a devotee drowned during a Ganpati idol immersion (visarjan) ritual along the Kuvadva-Wankaner road. The heart-wrenching incident threw the local community into mourning just as celebrations for the auspicious festival were drawing to a close.

Local emergency services and police personnel rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the alert to launch search and rescue operations. Despite swift efforts by rescuers, the devotee could not be saved.

Immersion Turns Fatal Along Kuvadva-Wankaner Route

Witnesses reported that a group of devotees had gathered near a water body along the Kuvadva-Wankaner stretch to perform the traditional farewell rituals and immerse their Lord Ganesha idol. During the procession, the victim accidentally slipped into deep water and was swept away by strong currents before onlookers could intervene.
