Wayanad woman consumes poison after husband found dead in Israel, 10-year-old daughter orphaned

A 32-year-old Reshma from Wayanad, Kerala, passed away on Wednesday while undergoing a treatment at the government Medical College Hospital after an alleged suicide attempt at her residence in Koleri.

Her 38-year-old husband, Jinesh P Sukumaran from Koliyadi,  was found dead in  Mevaseret Zion near Jerusalem in July 2025, where he was working as a caregiver.

According to reports, Jinesh was unhappy about leaving home and staying away from his family, but had to move to Israel for better financial opportunities.

Reports also note that Jinesh had moved to Israel barely a month before the tragedy struck.

The elderly woman under his care was also found dead at the residence with stab injuries, while Jinesh was found in an adjacent room.

The couple’s 10-year-old daughter has been orphaned after the dual tragedy.

According to A V JAYAN, ward member of Kenichira ward in Poothadi panchayat, Reshma had been attending counselling sessions in the aftermath of her husband’s death as she tried to cope with the loss.
