Watch US mayors grooving to Salman Khan’s ‘Chunari Chunari’ at Diwali event in North Carolina

A pre-Diwali celebration in North Carolina saw Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht and Morrisville Mayor TJ Cawley on the stage grooving on Bollywood tunes, winning cheers from the crowd.

They were seen dancing on Salman Khan’s hit song ‘Chunari Chunari’ from 1999 movie Biwi No.1.

The organisers took to their Instagram, “This year’s Hum Sub Diwali event was truly a celebration of togetherness and cultural pride! The highlight of the evening was when Mayor Harold Weinbrecht (Cary) and Mayor TJ Cawley (Morrisville) joined hands along with council members Sarika Bansal, Lori Bush, Michelle Craig and few others along with Cary and Morrisville Staff members that participated in the performances choreographed by Taal Harmony Dance Group to groove to the beats of India.”

“Through this collaboration, they helped spotlight the beauty of Indian traditions, rhythms, and community spirit right here in North Carolina,” they added.

Mayor Cawley wrote on Instagram, “Hum Sub Diwali is always one of my favorite events of the year and I had a great time dancing with staff and fellow elected officials from Cary, @townofmorrisvillenc and I had the chance to speak with those who won the youth leadership awards, Sana, Aditya Narayan, the other performers, vendors, and families at the event and had a great time, despite some rain! Looking forward to next year.”
