In a viral video, a Chinese woman expressed shock over the number of Indians in Canada.

The Chinese woman in the video claimed to share a candid photo from a place of Canada’s theoretical driver’s licence test, where people in the surroundings were purportedly Indians.

“This is terrible. Surrounded by Indians in Canada,” the woman said in Mandarin in the video.

Most of the people in her video seemed mainly from the Sikh population of India.

An X user commented on the video, “I went to Vancouver a few years ago, and straight up like 40% of the population is Chinese immigrants, so maybe she should go home too.”

While someone commented, “Our homelands have been stolen,” another wrote, “This is so ironic though because there are way more Chinese here.”

According to 2021 data from Statistics Canada, India took the top spot as the primary place of birth of new immigrants to Canada (18.6% of recent immigrants from 2016 to 2021), followed by the Philippines (11.4%) and China (8.9%).

In 2022, Indian immigration to Canada stood at 1,18,095, far surpassing other major source countries for permanent residents, according to Forbes.

In comparison, China contributed 31,815 immigrants, followed by Afghanistan with 23,735, Nigeria with 22,085, and the Philippines with 22,070, according to Statistics Canada.

Notably, this marked a significant shift from 2014, when the Philippines was the leading source of immigrants to Canada, ahead of India, reported Forbes.
