US Embassy in India warns students against visa violations, overstays

The United States Embassy in India has issued a fresh advisory urging Indian students and travelers to strictly comply with US immigration laws, warning of ‘serious consequences’ for overstays and legal violations.
In a post on X, the Embassy reminded travelers that they can access their Form I-94 online at i94.cbp.dhs.gov
to check their authorized period of stay and ensure timely departure.
The Embassy also cautioned students against breaking US laws while studying abroad. “Breaking US laws can have serious consequences for your student visa. If you are arrested or violate any laws, your visa may be revoked, you may be deported, and you could be ineligible for future US visas. Follow the rules and don’t jeopardize your travel. A US visa is a privilege, not a right,” the statement read.
The advisory comes amid growing numbers of Indian students pursuing higher education in the United States, where compliance with visa conditions remains critical to maintaining lawful status.
