US Embassy in India warns student visa holders of strict action for law violations

The US Embassy in India has issued a cautionary advisory on Wednesday for international students, warning that violations of US laws could lead to serious consequences, including cancellation of visas and deportation.
In a message shared on social media platform X on Wednesday, the embassy said that students arrested for breaking US laws or found in violation of legal provisions risk losing their student visa status. Such actions could also make them ineligible for future US visas.
The advisory emphasised that compliance with laws is essential and urged students not to jeopardise their stay in the country. It added that a US visa should be viewed as a privilege rather than an entitlement.
The warning comes about a week after the embassy issued a similar notice for applicants and holders of H-1B and H-4 work visas. In that advisory, the embassy had stated that breaches of US immigration rules could attract severe penalties, including criminal action.
The embassy has reiterated the importance of following all legal and immigration requirements while residing in the United States.
