US embassy ends third-party passport collection for visa applicants from August 1
The United States Embassy in India has implemented a significant change in its visa application process, ending third-party passport collection starting August 1, 2025. According to the new guideline, all US visa applicants must now collect their passports in person or opt for the paid courier delivery service, as per reports.
This move affects all applicants, regardless of visa category. The only exception is for minors under the age of 18, whose passports may be collected by their parents or legal guardians. However, this requires a hard copy of a consent letter signed by both parents; digital copies via email or scan will not be accepted under the new rules.
The US Embassy has reportedly stated that this change aims to enhance the security and integrity of passport return procedures. For those unable to collect their passports in person, a paid delivery service is available at a cost of ₹1,200, which applicants can opt for through their profiles on the ustraveldocs.com portal.
To change the delivery option, applicants must:
Log in to their profile on https://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/en/
Click on “Document Delivery Information” on the Visa Application Home page.
Select the applicant's name.
Choose the preferred delivery method.
Submit the changes.
Log out after completion.
Applicants are advised to plan accordingly to avoid delays or complications. Official updates and further details are available on the US travel document website and the embassy’s communication channels.
