Two Indian-origin students killed, two injured in road accident in Ireland

Two Indian students were killed in a fatal crash in Ireland on January 31, 2025. Driver Bhargav Chitturi (23) and rear passenger Suresh Cherukuri (24) was killed in a single-vehicle crash when the car they were in crashed into a tree on the N80 at Graiguenaspiddoge, in Leagh, Rathoe, at around 1.15 am on January 31, as per Ireland police.
“Two passengers of the car, a male and female aged in their 20s, were taken to St. Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny with serious but non-life threatening injuries,” as per police.
Notably, the crash happened at the same spot known as the ‘Leagh Bends’ where three other young people were killed exactly a year ago, according to local media reports.
Each passenger in the car was an Indian living in Carlow town. Three of the four occupants were pursuing studies in the pharmaceutical sector at SouthEast Technological University (SETU) in Carlow, suggested by local media.
According to reports, one of the individuals involved in the crash had recently started working for an American multinational pharmaceutical company in Carlow.
The Embassy of India in Dublin condoled the death of students on social media.
“Embassy of India in Dublin conveys its deepest condolences on the sad demise of two Indian nationals Mr. Cherekuri Suresh Chowdary and Mr. Chithoori Bhargav in a car accident in Carlow,” says India in Ireland X account.
“The Embassy Team is in touch with the family and friends of the deceased and also extending all possible support and assistance to two Indian nationals injured in the accident,” they added.
