Two Indian men jailed for 5 years for robbing, attacking sex workers in Singapore

A Singapore court has sentenced two Indian nationals to five years and one month in prison each, along with 12 strokes of the cane, for attacking sex workers during a holiday trip.
The convicts, Arokkiasamy Dyson, 23, and Rajendran, 27, had arrived in Singapore on April 24 for a summer vacation. Just two days later, while strolling through Little India, they were approached by an unidentified man offering sexual services.
According to reports, the two Indian men obtained the phone numbers of two sex workers from a stranger in Little India. Since they were out of money, they hatched a plan to rob them. As per the plan, a sex worker was called to a hotel room at 6 pm on April 26.
When she arrived, they reportedly tied her legs and hands with clothes and slapped her on the cheek. They robbed her of 2,000 Singapore dollars in cash, jewellery, a passport, and bank cards.
Moreover, on the same day around 11 pm, they brought another woman to another hotel and attacked her. They forced her to shut up and snatched 800 Singapore dollars in cash, two mobile phones, and her passport. They threatened her not to leave the room until they returned and fled from there, as per reports.
Followed by a complaint from one of the sex workers, the police initiated an investigation and arrested the accused. During the court hearing, both the Indian men confessed to their crime, citing ‘financial difficulties back home’.
While Arokkiasamy confessed that he robbed because he needed money after his father died last year and has three sisters, Rajendran said that his wife and children are struggling financially in India.
