Tragedy in London: Indian-origin couple and son die after high-rise fall
Three members of an Indian-origin family, including a nine-year-old boy, died after falling from a high-rise residential tower in London, according to local media reports.
Authorities are investigating the incident and have not yet confirmed whether it was a case of suicide, murder, or another set of circumstances.
The deceased have been identified as 47-year-old Rakesh Pai, 46-year-old Aditi Parlkar, and their son Sid. The family lived on the 36th floor of the High Point tower block in the Elephant and Castle area of south London. Reports said they fell from the balcony of their apartment, located nearly 400 feet above ground level.
According to media reports, Sid was born with serious medical conditions and had undergone treatment in India in 2020. Bermondsey and Old Southwark MP Neil Coyle stated that police believe the child's condition may have played a role in the family's tragic decision, though investigations are continuing.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after witnesses reported people falling from a height. Paramedics attempted to save them, but all three were pronounced dead at the scene.
Pai and Parlkar, both originally from India, worked as consultants in the finance and construction sectors respectively. The family had reportedly returned to the United Kingdom last year after seeking treatment for their son in India.
Further investigations are underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
