Three Indian nationals, including a teenager, were arrested in Canada for firing shots at a house in an alleged extortion case, reports stated. The incident happened in the town of Surrey in British Columbia.

The arrested persons have been identified as Harjot Singh (21), Taranveer Singh (19), and Dayajeet Singh Billing (21). All three were charged with discharging a firearm at a place. Police said they have been sent to custody until Friday. As they are foreign nationals, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has also been informed.

The incident took place early Sunday morning, just before 4 am, when police were patrolling the area. Officers received reports of gunshots and a small fire outside a house. The house was occupied at the time.

Police from the Surrey Police Service, Delta Police Department, and Police Dog Service reportedly reached the spot. Officers spotted a suspect vehicle nearby, but the people inside fled on foot. Later, the three suspects were caught after they got into a rideshare vehicle.

Firefighters quickly put out the small fire near a fence outside the house. There was no major fire damage, but police confirmed that the house was damaged by gunfire. No one was injured in the incident.

The case is now being handled by the Major Crime Section of Surrey Police. The area was under special patrolling as part of Project Assurance, which was started due to a rise in extortion-related crimes in Surrey and nearby areas.

Last week, two other Indian nationals were also arrested in Surrey in a similar shooting case linked to extortion. Harshdeep Singh (20) and Hanspreet Singh (21) were charged for being in a vehicle while knowing a firearm was present.

Police say investigations into extortion-related crimes in the region are ongoing.
