Sunita Williams ‘positive’ on return to Earth from ISS

Updated: Jul 11th, 2024

It’s been over a month since two NASA astronauts, including Indian-origin Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore, are stuck  at the International Space Station (ISS) due to a technical glitch in the Boeing space capsule.

“I have a real good feeling in my heart that the spacecraft will bring us home, no problem,” said Williams in a press conference from space, scheduled by NASA on July 10.

Wilmore reportedly stated, “We have complete confidence, and failure is not an option. That is why we are staying. Our return is crucial for the ongoing research on thruster trials by NASA and Boeing on Earth.”

When did they go to space?

NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore reached the ISS on June 5 from Florida in Boeing Starliner’s first-ever crewed mission to the ISS. They were supposed to spend about eight days there.

However, a glitch in the Starliner has extended their mission indefinitely. Upon reaching the space station, five of the Starliner’s 28 thrusters failed, and many others deteriorated, which are currently being repaired.
