Spain has officially launched its Digital Nomad visa, offering non-European remote workers, freelancers, and highly skilled professionals the opportunity to live and work in the country for up to five years. The visa comes into effect on June 10, 2025, as part of Spain's Startup Act aimed at attracting global talent and boosting innovation .

The visa allows eligible applicants to reside in Spain while working for companies or international clients. Professionals may also work with Spanish clients, provided such income does not exceed 20% of their total earnings. Applicants must hold for  families and dependents.

Those applying from outside spin receive an initial 12 months permit, while applicants already in spain obtain 3 years' residency, renewable in two years.

Spain had also extended family inclusion benefits under the visa. spouses, children, and dependent parents may accompany the primary applicants, gaining access to healthcare and education services.

A major attraction of the visa is the option to opt into Spain’s “Beckham Law”, which allows foreign residents to be taxed at a flat 24% rate on Spanish-source income up to €600,000 (₹6.6 cr) for six years.

Visa holders are also granted Schengen Area mobility, enabling visa-free travel across 27 European countries.

The new framework has generated strong interest among Indian professionals, particularly in technology, consulting, marketing, and creative fields, offering them a streamlined pathway to long-term residency in Europe.

Spanish authorities say the initiative aims to position the country as a hub for remote work, innovation, and digital entrepreneurship, while revitalising local economies and attracting global talent.
