Pannun murder-plot: Nikhil Gupta in custody till June 28

Updated: Jun 18th, 2024

Nikhil Gupta, the accused in orchestrating the murder plot of Khalistani outfit leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil, is being extradited to the United States.

The New York court has ordered Gupta to be held in custody until June 28. His lawyer had not applied for bail.

Nikhil Gupta’s attorney stated “Gupta was summoned to appear in federal court in New York on June 17, where he declared himself innocent. This case is complex for both countries. However, it is also important, so we demand that there be no kind of agitation.”

The first visuals of the extradition had been shared by the official X handle of the Police of the Czech Republic.

“Since June 14, the foreigner has been suspected in the US of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire in the hands of American justice. The cooperation of foreign police officers, the Directorate for International Police Cooperation and colleagues from the USA enabled the safe extradition from the Prague airport,” they wrote on X.

Pavel Blažek, Minister of Justice of the Czech Republic

said on X, “Based on my decision on June 3, Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta was extradited to the USA on June 14, to face criminal prosecution. He is suspected of conspiring to murder for hire with intent to cause death. Thanks to all agencies involved in facilitating the extradition.”

On June 30, 2023, Gupta was arrested by the Czech police. He has been accused of involvement in planning the assassination of a prominent Khalistani outfit leader in the US.
