October announced as ‘Hindu Heritage Month’ in US state of Ohio
The month of October was announced ‘Hindu Heritage Month’ by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine on Wednesday.
The bill signed by DeWine was endorsed by the state’s former Senator Niraj Antani. Last year, he was the primary sponsor and advocate for this legislation.
The signing took place in the presence of several community leaders from the US including Hindu American Foundation Executive Director Suhag Shukla.
Niraj Antani expressed his gratitude, saying, “I’m incredibly excited to have been with Governor Mike DeWine today as he signed HB 173 into law, designating October as Hindu Heritage Month!”
“As the first Hindu state senator in Ohio’s 221-year history, I’m so proud to have gotten this legislation enacted. Now forever more, we will be able to celebrate our community every October in Ohio,” he added.
“This is a huge win for Hindus across Ohio and the country. Now, every October we will be able to officially celebrate our Hindu heritage in Ohio. This was the culmination of a lot of work by Hindu advocates here in Ohio and across the country and I was very happy to partner with them to get this passed,” said Senator Antani in an earlier release.
