No social media or no public accounts? US may deny visa

Amid the ongoing rift with the Ivy League School, the Trump administration has ordered more scrutiny of social media profiles of any foreigners seeking to visit Harvard University.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday announced the new vetting procedures that any “prospective students, students, faculty, employees, contractors, guest speakers, and tourists" who want to visit Harvard should have a social media presence.
Rubio dubbed the move as ‘national security action’ reportedly saying that everyone is vetted.
According to The NewYork Post, the consular officers were directed to look over applicants’ social media presence and take note of those with “private” profiles or whose “lack of any online presence” could “be reflective of evasiveness” — or “activities inconsistent” with the temporary legal status they’re seeking.
The cable also orders consular offers to switch their social media accounts to the public so interviewers can see what’s in them. The absence of online posts could be used against them, Rubio said.
