Newly-Wed Hyderabad Engineer Dies Mysteriously in US, Family Seeks Govt Help to Bring Body Back

A 28-year-old civil engineer from Hyderabad has died under suspicious circumstances at his residence in Lowell, Massachusetts, just 17 days after his marriage.

Mohammed Jaber Hussain was found dead in his room, prompting his economically weaker family to appeal to the Indian government for assistance in repatriating his mortal remains.

Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan shared a letter written by Hussain's father, Mohammed Zakir Hussain, to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on X. The family requested the Indian Mission in the US to coordinate with local authorities and expedite the paperwork required to transport the body back to Hyderabad.

"At this hour of unimaginable grief, the family needs the support of the Government of India. I sincerely hope for your immediate humanitarian intervention to bring Jaber home to his family without any further delay," Khan posted.

Sequence of Events

Hussain tied the knot on August 28 in Texas before heading back to Massachusetts for work. It remains unclear whether his newly-wed wife accompanied him.

He last communicated with his relatives on September 14. Roughly eight hours later, a phone call from his roommate alerted the family that Hussain had passed away in his sleep.

It is yet to be established whether he received timely medical aid. The family awaits post-mortem and medical examinations to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Academic and Professional Background

Hussain relocated to the United States in 2021 to complete his master's degree in civil engineering at the University of New Haven in Connecticut, graduating in 2023.

His professional journey included an internship at a firm called Estimator, followed by a stint of over three years at Green International Affiliates Inc. In June this year, he transitioned to a new role at Lochner in Massachusetts, where he was employed until his death.
