Microsoft faces public outcry as employee accuses company of complicity in Gaza conflict
An Indian-American software engineer accused Microsoft’s current and past CEOs – Satya Nadella, Steve Ballmer, and Bill Gates – of aiding "genocide in Gaza." "Shame on you; you are all hypocrites!" she shouted as she was escorted out of the hall during a 50th-anniversary event. Some employees in the crowd booed as the top three faces of Microsoft stood in stunned silence.
Vaniya Agarwal, the engineer, stated, "50,000 Palestinians in Gaza were murdered with Microsoft technology. Shame on you all for celebrating on their blood. Cut ties with Israel!"
After she was forcibly removed, Bill Gates simply nodded nonchalantly before continuing the discussion.
Following the confrontation, Vaniya submitted her resignation letter, stating that her last day at Microsoft would be April 11. In the letter, she expressed her inability to continue working for an organization that empowers "oppressors."
In the lengthy resignation letter, Vaniya claimed that Microsoft was complicit in Israel's military campaign against Gaza. This was the second disruption at the event, as another employee, Ibtihal Aboussad, called Microsoft’s AI CEO, Mustafa Suleyman, "a war profiteer."
