Man Arrested Months After Indian-Origin Woman Was Murdered in Toronto

Months after 30-year-old Indian-origin woman Himanshi Khurana was found murdered at a residence in Toronto, Canadian police have arrested her partner in connection with the case.

Toronto police arrested 32-year-old Abdul Ghafoori at the airport on Friday. He has been charged with first-degree murder in Khurana’s death, police said on Saturday local time.

Khurana was found dead on December 20, 2025, after police received a missing-person report a day earlier from the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area.

Police discovered the woman’s body inside a residence during their investigation and subsequently classified the case as a homicide. Authorities had earlier described the killing as an “act of intimate partner violence” and confirmed that the victim and suspect were known to each other.

Suspect brought back to Canada

According to officials, Toronto’s fugitive squad and homicide unit worked with police services at the national and international levels to locate and bring Ghafoori back to Canada.

Authorities have not disclosed the country from which he was brought back.

Ghafoori had been wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder before his arrest at the airport.

Indian Consulate closely followed case

Following Khurana’s death, the Consulate General of India in Toronto had expressed grief over the murder and said it was closely monitoring the case.

The Consulate had also stated that all possible assistance was being extended to Khurana’s family in coordination with Canadian authorities.

Ghafoori now faces legal proceedings in Canada. A first-degree murder conviction can carry life imprisonment without parole, subject to the circumstances established in court.
