Kuwait authorities arrest three over inferno that killed 45 Indians

Over a suspected manslaughter, Kuwaiti authorities have arrested three persons causing injuries to many and killing 50 foreign workers, reported media.

A massive fire erupted in a six-storey building in Kuwait’s Mangaf city on June 12, killing at least 49 people, 45 of them Indians.

As per local media, three Filipinos were also among the dead, after the fire sent black smoke billowing through the six-storey structure south of Kuwait city and injured dozens more.

According to the Indian Ministry of external affairs, there were around over 10 lakh non-resident Indians (NRIs) as of 2020.

A local media outlet stated that the Accident Investigation Department determined the fire originated in the security guard’s room on the ground floor. The team attributed the blaze to a short circuit.

The relatives of many Indians are mourning their loved ones’ death and awaiting to receive bodies to perform last rites.

A special Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft carrying the mortal remains of 45 Indian victims in the fire incident in Kuwait has taken off for Kochi today and then left for Delhi.

Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, who coordinated with Kuwaiti authorities to ensure swift repatriation, is onboard the aircraft.
