In a shocking incident, a man from Gujarat’s Kutch was killed and later dissolved in acid by his friend, also from Kutch, in Kenya’s capital Nairobi on Feb 14.

The accused hails from Baladia village of Bhuj, while the deceased was from Naranpar village of Nakhatrana. The police suspect that the murder may have been committed over the deceased’s alleged relationship with the accused’s wife or a land deal gone wrong.

Deceased Jayesh Patel had settled with his family near Kodi, Nairobi West for the past twenty years.

Jayesh went missing on Feb 14 under mysterious circumstances after leaving home on foot with his wife. A missing complaint for him was registered at Langata Police on Feb 15.

After the police examined the CCTV footage, he was seen in a white car heading towards Mombasa.

During the investigation, the police arrested a local youth named Manguti Mulandi as a suspect. The investigation into the murder was handed over to the DCI (Directorate of Criminal Investigation).

The investigation team then went on to arrest Kalyan Vekaria and three other youths who carried out the murder. The four accused were produced before the Kibera court and the court granted a 21-day remand.

The investigation team told the court that the accused Kalyan had come to the petrol pump to meet the deceased.

Kalyan lured Jayesh to a spot under the pretext of getting a plot of land at a cheap price where Kalyan and his accomplices hit Jayesh in the head with an iron rod.

According to reports, Jayesh died on the spot. The accused worked together to destroy the evidence by stripping the body of its clothes and immersing it in a strong acid to dissolve it.

During the investigation, items recovered from the scene proved to be a strong link in solving the murder case.

Broken glasses, bones, an iron rod, and a bike used by the accused were seized from the scene.

The police stated that the investigation into the motive of the murder is underway.
