A 42-year-old survivor and non-resident Indian doctor has reportedly filed a complaint against a Karnataka-based well-known yoga instructor for raping her multiple times.

Pradeep Ullal (54), the spiritual head of Kevala Foundation in Chikkamagaluru, Mallenahalli, was reportedly arrested after the NRI woman’s complaint.

According to reports, the survivor came in touch with Ullal during an online yoga class via a mutual friend in 2020.

The woman, originally from Punjab, and a resident of California since 2000, visited Ullal’s yoga foundation thrice between 2021 and 2022.

During this course of time, she was sexually assaulted under the pretext of ‘teaching yoga’ and ‘spirituality, energy work and divine love’, according to the complaint.

Ullal reportedly manipulated her saying that ‘they had a relationship in their previous birth’. He then forced her into sexual acts, claiming these were necessary for her ‘spiritual progress’.

The Chikkamagaluru rural police has reportedly booked a case under Section 376(2)(n) (commits rape repeatedly on the same woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
