Indians celebrating Diwali on Toronto streets face backlash from netizens
A viral video captured hundreds of people blocking a road in Toronto and lighting firecrackers during Diwali.
Sharing the video, a YouTuber wrote on X, “Canadian Newcomers blocked downtown Toronto's busiest intersection last night to celebrate Diwali.”
“They were spotted doing burnouts and lighting fireworks until 2am. Of course they had no permits for this unlawful celebration,” he added.
The video drew various reactions. While one wrote, “Can’t really say nothing because we kinda do the same thing on Canada Day,” another user wrote, “As an immigrant, I am disgusted! Arrest! Deport!!”.
The video saw many anti-immigrant and anti-Indian comments.
The 30-second clip gathered over 898.5K views in 24 hours and Canadian users slammed the act as a ‘public nuisance’.
Most of the Canadian users demanded the deportation of Diwali revellers on the street, and one user wrote, “They are Indians. Not ‘newcomers’!”
