Indian students enrollment at French institutions increase by 17%, says embassy

According to the Embassy of France in India, enrollments of Indian students in French institutions have risen by 17% for the 2024–2025 academic year, moving the country closer to its goal of welcoming 30,000 Indian students by 2030.

A statement from the Embassy mentioned, “This growth represents an important milestone in achieving our ambitious goal of welcoming 30,000 Indian students by 2030, a target set at the highest levels of government.”

Thierry Mathou, the Ambassador of France to India, in 2023 had said that President Emmanuel Macron has conveyed that France is willing to welcome 30,000 Indian students within its higher institutions by 2030.

Back then, Mathou had also discussed the measures regarding the five-year short-stay Schengen visa. He had said that France believes that when an Indian student spends even just a semester in France, it creates a connection that ought to be fostered and cherished.

Since 2023, Indian students who hold a Master’s degree or above and have spent at least a semester studying in France are eligible for a 5-year short-stay Schengen visa. This is a special provision for Indian alumni to enable them to keep close links with France and their French counterparts.
