An Indian student working as a security guard in Alberta’s Edmonton in Canada was shot dead by two individuals on Friday. Subsequently, the accused duo were arrested by the local police.

The purported murder is said to have taken place in the wee hours on Friday around 12.30 am. Police found the deceased 20-year-old Harshandeep Singh in his apartment’s stairwell in an unresponsive state.

A team was responding to a report of a gunshot from 106 Street and 107 Avenue, where they found the Indian national. Singh was rushed to a hospital, but was unfortunately declared dead.

Police arrested Evan Rain, 30, and Judith Saulteaux, 30, who were charged with 1st-degree murder in this case. A weapon was also recovered in the arrest.

In a video, said to be the CCTV footage of this horrendous ordeal, the attackers could be seen throwing Singh off the stairs and shooting him to death.

Although the CCTV footage shows three attackers involved in Singh’s death, the police department has stated that they “do not believe anyone else was involved”.

The EPS, which typically doesn’t release the name of a deceased individual unless the death has been confirmed to be a homicide, said that it released Singh’s name “for an investigative purpose and in an effort to alleviate public safety concerns”.

A police release stated that Homicide Section detectives continue to investigate what led up to the shooting. An autopsy will be conducted on Monday, it added.
