Indian student killed in Germany on New Year’s eve while escaping from fire

A 25-year-old Indian-origin student died in Germany on New Year's Eve after a fire broke out at his residence, according to reports.
Thokala Hruthik Reddy, a 25-year-old student from Telangana’s Mallakpur village, went to Germany to pursue higher studies and lived in Berlin.
When fire broke out, thick smoke and blaze increased rapidly, when he tried to escape by jumping from his window, he sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he died during treatment.
Reddy belongs to Telangana. He graduated from Vaagdevi College of Engineering in 2022, then left India in June 2023, to pursue an MS degree at the University of Europe. His father is BJP’s spokesperson, while his mother leads a local self help group.
The family was waiting for his arrival on January 13 to celebrate the Makar Sankranti after he failed to come on dusehra. Now, they have reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian Embassy in Germany to expedite the process for his mortal remains as local authorities in Germany are investigating the cause of the fire.
