An Indian student in USA enrolled at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, has been held and deported over falsifying his documents to obtain a scholarship, according to media reports.

The illicit deed of the student, Aryan Anand, was unearthed after he reportedly posted on the social media platform Reddit, boasting how he built “his life and career on lies”.

Anand was arrested on Apr 30 and was presented before Northampton County earlier this month, where he pleaded guilty to faking his application, reported the media.

The now-deleted post mentioned how Anand used fraudulent methods to avail a full scholarship at the university, including forging the death certificate of his father, who is currently alive, along with faking transcripts and financial statements.

A moderator in the subreddit reportedly flagged Anand’s post and informed Lehigh University about this incident. This led to authoritative action against the accused, and felony charges were levied upon him.

He was reportedly released on bail this month for $25,000 (₹20.83 lakh).
