A 44-year-old teacher assistant at a Charlotte elementary school was arrested this past weekend after she allegedly attacked her husband with a knife after a dispute over house cleaning.

Chandraprabha Singh, who works at Endhaven Elementary School in North Carolina, was accused of “unlawfully, willfully, feloniously” cutting another person’s neck on October 12, according to an arrest warrant cited by a local news outlet.

“Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Domestic Violence Unit are conducting an investigation involving Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) employee, Chandraprabha Singh, 44,” said CMPD.

“Singh was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) to speak with detectives. After speaking with detectives, Singh was then transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury,” said police.

The victim, identified as Arvind Singh, reportedly told police that his wife became frustrated because he had not cleaned the house and “purposely attacked him with the knife”.

However, Chandraprabha allegedly told investigators that she was making breakfast when her husband offered to help. Frustrated over the untidy house, she claimed she turned around with a knife in her hand and “accidentally” slashed her husband’s neck.

Chandraprabha was initially denied bond by a magistrate. During a court appearance on October 13, the bond was set at $10,000, and she was assigned a public defender. According to the local news, she was released from jail on Monday and was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device. She was also ordered not to go near or have any contact with the victim.
