Indian-origin truck driver held after fatal three-vehicle collision in Indiana, US

An Indian-origin truck driver has been taken into custody after allegedly running a red light and causing a fatal three-vehicle collision in Indiana, as per reports. The crash, which occurred at a rural intersection in Hendricks County, west of Indianapolis, in the United States resulted in the death of a 64-year-old local resident.
According to reports, the semi-truck struck a Chevrolet pickup, setting off a chain-reaction crash involving another vehicle. The pickup’s driver, identified as Terry Schultz, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver, Sukhdeep Singh, was arrested on Wednesday. Federal law enforcement officials later confirmed that he is currently being held by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as the investigation into the crash continues.
Singh had previously crossed into the United States in 2018 as a minor and was released under federal immigration policies in place at the time. Singh obtained his commercial driver’s licence in May 2025.
Authorities have said reviews are under way to ensure compliance with safety regulations, language requirements, and licensing standards.
