Indian-origin teens pose as queer to target 2SLGBTQ+ members in Canada, arrested for violent robberies
Three Indian-origin teenagers in Canada have been arrested for allegedly posing as queer individuals on social media to lure, rob, and target members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, including South Asians, in Brampton, according to Canada’s Peel Regional Police (PRP).
Between April and May 2025, the suspects reportedly arranged in-person meetings under false pretenses, leading to violent robberies, with firearms being brandished in some cases. Police state that the suspects specifically targeted South Asian members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, exploiting their trust and safety.
On July 4, police executed search warrants at multiple locations in Peel Region, resulting in the arrest of 18-year-old Hardil Singh Mehrok of Brampton, along with two male youths aged 16 and 17, who cannot be named under Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act. They have been charged with kidnapping (2 counts) and robbery (3 counts) and remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
An arrest warrant has also been issued for 20-year-old Preetpal Kooner of Mississauga on the same charges.
The PRP highlighted concerns that there may be additional victims, particularly within the South Asian 2SLGBTQ+ community, who have not yet come forward out of fear. The police assured that the identity and safety of all victims will be prioritised, and hate-motivated charges are under consideration.
