Indian-origin student in US arrested for threatening family, trying to set home on fire

A 22-year-old Indian-origin student of Texas university in the United States was arrested for arson and threatening his family, as per local reports.

Manojh Sai Lella, a senior student at the University of Texas at Dallas, was taken into custody by Frisco police on Monday after authorities responded to a call from his family frightened by his threats.

The police said they reached Lellas home after family members reported that he was experiencing a mental health episode. Following which he threatened his family, prompting them to seek help.

Investigation suggests Manoj had allegedly attempted to set the family home on fire earlier, raising serious safety concerns. Based on these findings, police arrested him and filed multiple charges.

Lella has been charged with arson with intent to damage a habitat or place of worship, and terroristic threat against a family or household member. However, police clarified that there is no evidence to suggest that he intended to target or threaten any place of worship.

The bond was set at $100,000 for the arson charge and $3,500 for the terroristic threat charge, as per court documents. The investigation is ongoing, as per the authorities.

The case has drawn attention to the role of mental health issues in domestic incidents and highlights the challenges faced by families during such crises.
