A 22-year-old Indian-origin youth was allegedly killed with a ‘sharp-edged weapon’ in Downtown Edmonton parking in Canada’s Alberta on Sept 4.

On Sept 6, the Edmonton Police Service charged 40-year-old Edgar Wesker, with the homicide of Sikh youth Jashandeep Singh Mann, an international student eight months ago.

Wesker, who was taken into custody shortly after the incident, has since been charged with second-degree murder and has been remanded.

“We can confirm that both men were not known to one another, and this appears to be an isolated incident,” said Staff Sergeant Colin Leathem with the EPS Homicide Section.

“The accused remained on scene, and was swiftly taken into custody by our officers,” the police added.

According to a fundraising portal, Mann, an international student from Punjab, was brutally murdered while working part-time for Tim Hortons restaurant chain  in Edmonton.

“Mann was attacked by a truck driver who attacked him multiple times, taking his life,” according to the website.
