In an unfortunate event involving another Indian-origin student in Canada, hailing from Gujarat’s Navsari, died of carbon monoxide poisoning in Kitchener city, Ontario, according to local media. Another six people, who lived in the same house, were hospitalised due to the incident.

According to the regional police, emergency services were called after a vehicle was accidentally left running in the garage of a house on Activa Avenue near Periwinkle Street, reported City News.

The statement from the police to the news house revealed that three people were found needing medical attention on the fire department’s arrival on the site, out of which the 25-year-old Indian-origin international student was found with no vitals.

“The incident is not considered suspicious, and the source of the carbon monoxide was determined to be a vehicle left running in the garage of the residence,” read the statement from the Waterloo regional police department.

Another media house reported that the victim was a student who had moved to Canada four years ago for further studies. The report further stated that a close friend of the victim’s family chose not to reveal the victim’s name.

Carbon monoxide poisoning

Carbon monoxide is one of the byproduct gases emitted from vehicle exhaust as a result of fuel burning. It is a colourless gas that can displace oxygen in the bloodstream and prove toxic for humans.

Closed places like garages, especially when cars are sitting idle, can be prone to elevated levels of carbon monoxide, which can only be measured by carbon monoxide indicators/alarms.
