Interpol launches search for Indian-origin missing student in Punta Cana, read how the events unfolded
A global alert in search of Indian-origin missing student Sudiksha Konanki was launched by Interpol on Monday.
The authorities in the Dominican Republic are continuing to interview Joshua Riibe, the person of interest, who was last seen with Konanki.
Here are the series of events in the mysterious case:
March 3
Konanki and her friends arrived in Punta Cana on March 3.
March 6
As per CCTV footage, during the early hours of March 6, Konanki went to a nightclub with friends.
She later went on a walk by the beach with Riibe.
While most of the group went back to the hotel, Riibe, a college senior in Minnesota -- stayed with Konanki on the beach, according to a Dominican Republic investigative police.
Dominican National Emergency System, informed that Konanki was last seen around 4.15 am on March 6 at the Riu República Hotel beach in Punta Cana.
March 11
Konanki was believed to be dead after drowning.
March 13
Riibe was interviewed by a prosecutor, and he detailed his interactions with the missing 20-year-old, to US media.
Riibe said he met Konanki that night and they kissed after a night of drinking.
March 14
Riibe’s parents released a statement on March 14, praising their son’s ‘integrity and good heart’, as per US media.
March 16
A footage showed missing University of Pittsburgh student Konanki and Joshua Riibe, the person of interest, at an outdoor bar before she vanished from a Punta Cana beach. The videos were obtained by a local media outlet Noticia SIN.
March 17
Riibe’s lawyers said they’ve requested a habeas corpus hearing, according to US media.
