Indian-origin MBBS student’s body found from dam in Russia after he went missing 19 days ago

A 22-year-old Indian-origin student was found dead in Russia after being missing for 19 days.

The body of Ajit Singh Chaudhary, a resident of Kaphanwada village in Lakshmangarh in Rajasthan’s Alwar, was recovered from a dam in Russia on Thursday.

Ajit Singh had been pursuing an MBBS degree at Bashkir State Medical University since 2023.

According to reports, he went missing on October 19 after leaving his hostel around 11 am, telling friends he would return shortly after buying milk. However, he never returned.

As per a social media post by Jitendra Singh Alwar, AICC in-charge of Assam, “The family was extremely distraught upon hearing the news of the 22-year-old boy’s disappearance; the entire family had been making efforts and prayers for his safe return.”

“Ajit’s uncle, along with other family members, had also met with me; through India’s Ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar ji, we had contacted Bashkir State Medical University and the local police to get feedback,” he wrote.

Alwar wrote, “I request the Government of India and Foreign Minister Dr S Jaishankar to immediately bring Ajit’s body back to India. An untoward incident has occurred with the boy in suspicious circumstances; it must be investigated with complete seriousness. The family should not have to run around your offices anymore.”

Ajit’s parents, Roop Singh and Santra Devi, are heartbroken, and the family has demanded a thorough investigation into how the young student lost his life in a foreign country.
