Indian-origin man shot dead in Canada, target killing suspected

Adding to the concerns over diaspora’s safety abroad, an Indian has been targeted on foreign soil yet again. 29- year-old Indian-origin Yuvraj Goyal was shot dead in Surrey, Canada, in what the local police believes to be a target killing.
“On June 7, 2024, at approximately 8:46 a.m., the Surrey RCMP received a call of a shooting in the 900-block of 164 Street, Surrey, BC. Surrey RCMP front-line officers attended and located a 29-year-old man deceased,” stated The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
Later, police were called to a vehicle fire near the McMillan Road, Surrey. The Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team identified four suspects and took them into custody.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken charge of the investigation and will be working closely in partnership with the Surrey RCMP and the BC Coroners Service. IHIT will be working with the Integrated Forensic Identification Service to determine if the burnt vehicle is associated with the homicide.
“Initial evidence suggests this was a targeted shooting,” said the police.
The RCMP has initiated an investigation into this matter, suspecting four individuals of first-degree murder. The suspects have been identified as Manvir Basram (23), Sahib Basra (20), and Harkirat Jhutty, (23) of Surrey, and Keilon Francois (20) of Ontario.
