Teenagers attacks Indian origin in Australia

An Indian-origin man in Melbourne, Australia, sustained injuries after being violently assaulted by a group of teenagers last week, as per reports.

The victim, 33-year-old Saurabh Anand, was returning home from a pharmacy visit when the incident occurred on the evening of July 19, according to Australian media.

Saurabh had reportedly just collected medicines from the Central Square Shopping Centre in Altona Meadows at around 7.30 pm and was speaking with a friend over the phone when five teenagers surrounded him. One of them began rifling through his pockets, while another repeatedly struck him on the head until he fell to the ground, noted the reports.

A third assailant took out a machete and held it near Saurabh’s throat. Reacting instinctively, he raised his arm to protect himself, which led to the weapon slicing through his wrist and hand.

In addition to the severe injuries to his hand, Saurabh was also stabbed in the shoulder and back, resulting in a fractured spine and several broken bones, as per reports.

Despite the pain and trauma, he managed to walk out of the area and call for emergency assistance. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where doctors initially feared they might have to amputate his hand. Fortunately, surgeons were able to successfully reattach it.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the attack.
