Indian-origin man from Telangana drowns in Toronto lake during birthday celebrations

An Indian-origin student from Hyderabad reportedly drowned in a lake in Toronto, Canada, on his birthday.

Praneeth, who completed his master’s degree and was searching for a job in Canada, drowned in a lake near Toronto while celebrating his birthday.

His father, Ravi, requested the government via video message to bring his son’s body back to India.

According to the video message of Ravi, his son went swimming along with his brother on September 15.

Praneeth, originally from Meerpet in Ranga Reddy district went to Canada for studies in 2019. His elder brother also went to Canada in 2022.

Praneeth fell into the water while in the middle of the lake and drowned before help could arrive, according to local media reports.

A viral video showed Praneeth jumping into the lake and in another video before the incident, he was seen taking a selfie with his friends on a motorboat in the lake.
