Indian-origin lawyer terminated for ‘consensual relationship’ with CEO at US firm

An Indian-origin lawyer Nabanita Chaterjee Nag has been terminated as Chief Legal Officer & Corporate Secretary over ‘engaging in a consensual relationship’ with CEO Alan Shaw.
By unanimous decision, the board of directors at Norfolk Southern Corporation, Atlanta, also terminated Shaw for ‘violating company policies by engaging in a consensual relationship’ with Nag.
The directors appointed Mark George, the company’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, as President and CEO with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, Jason Morris will serve as the company’s corporate secretary.
Norfolk Southern Corporation stated that although the relationship was consensual, the two officials breached company policies and the ‘code of ethics’ by engaging in it.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Nag is a “seasoned leader” and “collaborator at three Fortune 300 public companies”.
She was appointed as Chief Legal Officer in 2022 and Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs in 2023, as per her LinkedIn profile.
Earlier in her career, she had also worked for Goldman Sachs in 2005.
Norfolk Southern is a major U S freight railroad company of goods like cars, agriculture, and consumer products.
