Indian-origin Harshita Brella warned family about husband killing her
After a month to the murder of 24-year-old Harshita Brella, her mother reportedly shared with British media that Harshita told her that her ‘husband would kill her’.
Nineteen days after Indian-origin Harshita’s murder, her body was sent to her family in Delhi. Her funeral was organised by her family in Delhi on December 3.
Her sister stated that Harshita was like a ‘child who never argued with anyone’. Her family has accused her husband, Pankaj Lamba, of her murder, claiming he fled to India after committing the crime. They have sought assistance from the Delhi Police.
Harshita and Pankaj had a court marriage last year in August. Later, Pankaj moved to the UK while Harshita remained in India, awaiting her visa application.
Upon Pankaj’s return, the couple married again following Hindu rituals, and Harshita moved to London on April 30. According to her family, Pankaj began harassing her after that.
Reports suggest that Pankaj wanted to buy a house in London and was harassing Harshita’s family for money. Harshita’s mother stated that before her murder, Harshita had called to report that Pankaj was physically assaulting her and she feared he might kill her. A case of domestic violence had also been filed against Pankaj in the UK.
Harshita’s mother said that Pankaj was making Harshita's life miserable, and once her daughter said that he would kill her, BBC reports.
“We suspect Lamba transported Harshita’s body from Northamptonshire on November 10 and driven to Ilford by car on November 14. We believe he has now fled the country,” said a UK Police official.
Her husband Pankaj is the murder investigation’s prime suspect, according to UK Police.
