Indian-origin former professor shot in US

An Indian-origin academic from UP, living in the US for almost four decades was shot down in Georgia’s capital Atlanta on Wednesday.

58-year-old Dr Shriram Singh, a native of Gonda’s Tulsipur Majha was attacked in his car while he was on his way to attend a programme, said by Lalji Singh, head of village, as per reports.

Dr Singh, who spent 37 years in the US, joined Atlanta Agricultural University as a professor in 1990 after completing his PhD degree.

He had previously earned his postgraduate degree from Acharya Narendra Dev Agricultural University in Ayodhya. Recently, he ventured into business in the US.  

According to his younger brother Shivaji Singh, who resides in their native village, Dr Singh lived in the US with his family. His elder son, Amit Singh, is an engineer in FBI, while his younger son, Ankur Singh, is a cancer specialist.

According to reports, Dr Singh left his job and turned to a business partnership in 2022.

The sudden murder of Dr Singh has brought grief to his native village. The family and villagers have demanded punishment for the culprits.
