Crime against Indians abroad is seeing a sharp spike, as a renowned medical practitioner based in the US, Dr Ramesh Peramsetty, was shot dead on August 23.

Emergency services reportedly rushed to the spot upon being prompted, but the doctor was declared dead on their arrival.

Dr Peramsetty, hailing from Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati, was a famous medico in Alabama’s Tuscaloosa.

After he graduated from Pondicherry’s Shri Venkateswara Medical College in 1986, Dr Peramsetty moved to the US.

There, he established Crimson Care Network, a chain of local clinics, and served as the medical director of the firm.

His clinics reportedly proved to be a boon for many during the Covid-19 pandemic in the US, as they were among the first to conduct tests, vaccination, and provide other medical services.

Dr Peramsetty has also been honoured for his services by the civic body in Tuscaloosa, which reportedly named a street after him.

According to an American health portal, the doctor specialised in emergency and family medicine and practised for around 38 years.

Speaking over the tragic demise in a social media post, Crimson Care stated, “Please continue to keep the Peramsetty and Crimson Care Network family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this challenging time. Our team is prepared to make more statements within the next few days. We will continue to honour his legacy. Our clinics remain open during the transition.”
