The Indian origin couple has reportedly donated $5.5 million (₹52.62 crore) to expand medical services in Greater Houston and its suburbs in US.
The couple, Brij Agarwal and his wife Sunita Agarwal, donated funds to support clinical programmes at St. Luke’s Health-Sugar Land Hospital and to help establish a nearby Primary Care Community Clinic in an area with limited access to primary healthcare, as per reports.
Brij, a native of Chhattisgarh who moved to Houston in 1979 and earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Houston.
The donation of $5.5 million is the largest single gift in the hospital’s history, as per hospital officials. In recognition, the hospital’s main patient tower and pavilion will be renamed in honour of the Agarwals, the report cited.
The latest donation adds to the family's longstanding record of philanthropy in the Houston region as Agarwal’s have previously contributed $1 million in 2022 to the University of Huston at Sugar land to develop education and research facilities.
In an interview, Sunita Agrawal reportedly said that the donation is her family's gratitude towards a community which played a significant role in shaping their personal and professional journey.
