Indian-origin CEO slams Indian techies ‘don’t want to work 6 days in 1 cr base salary’

In a yet another work-culture debate online, San Francisco-based Indian-origin co-founder and IITian claimed that Indian techies don’t want to work six days a week ‘even with ₹1 crore salary’.
Varun Vummadi, an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur took to his X account saying, “I’ve noticed a pattern in hiring engineers for our Indian office. Even with a base salary of ₹1 crore, many are unwilling to work hard. A significant number of engineers with 3–8 years of experience are reluctant to work six days a week.”
In a latest X post, he wrote, “So work-life balance is what cuts it for attention and press in the Indian crowd. People who are willing to work hard hope they don’t get eaten up by this virus; many successful startups did 6 or 7 days a week. Elon Musk is a living example of where you can be if you work hard.”
A user in the comment section wrote, “People will work hard when they see the value of what they are building and their importance in the org; it comes from within, cannot be a mandate. One who is getting a high salary, is getting it everywhere and will choose to have a life outside work if they are not working on their life’s work. Maybe double it (in cash) if you want only money to be a motivator.”
Another user said, “I guess people are prioritising mental health and well being instead of those tiring long working hours, but I guess, there should be balance among those two, both things should go hand in hand.”
