A 29-year-old resident of Fremont in the United States,  Varun Suresh, has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly stabbing 71-year-old David Brimmer to death in a targeted attack on September 18, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Police said they received a 911 call around 11.57 am about a violent altercation at a home on the 600 block of Upper Vintners Circle. Officers arrived within minutes and found Brimmer unresponsive with multiple stab wounds. Despite emergency trauma care, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators alleged Suresh specifically sought out registered sex offenders as potential victims and found Brimmer’s name on California’s sex offender registry. Evidence reportedly shows Suresh planned the attack, disguised himself, and chased Brimmer into a nearby home during the assault.

Suresh admitted to the killing and showed no remorse, allegedly telling detectives the act was ‘honestly really fun’ and that he wanted to ‘send him to the gates’, as per reports.

Suresh was arrested at the scene and a knife was recovered. He has been charged with:

Penal Code 187(a): Murder

Penal Code 12022: Armed individual causing great bodily injury

Penal Code 459: Residential burglary

Police emphasised that this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the community. This marks Fremont’s fifth homicide of 2025.

The case has been presented to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
