An Indian nurse in Singapore has been sentenced to one year and two months’ jail and two strokes of the cane for molesting a male hospital visitor under the pretext of disinfection, as per reports.

According to reports, Elipe Siva Nagu, 34, committed the offence at Raffles Hospital on June 18 this year. The court heard that the victim had gone to the hospital on North Bridge Road to visit his ailing grandfather when the incident occurred.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Eugene Phua reportedly told the court that the victim entered a patient’s toilet around 7.30pm when Elipe looked inside. Claiming he needed to disinfect the visitor, the nurse applied soap on his hand and proceeded to molest the victim.

Shocked and unable to react immediately, the victim later returned to his grandfather’s bedside. The matter was reported to police on June 21, and Elipe was arrested two days later.

Raffles Hospital reportedly suspended him from duty soon after the incident.

The prosecution said the victim has since suffered flashbacks of the ordeal, according to reports.

Elipe was sentenced on Friday to 14 months’ jail and two strokes of the cane.
