A daughter of Indian immigrants was among 67 passengers onboard American Airlines Flight 5342, which collided with a US Army helicopter in a horrific crash at Ronald Reagan National Airport in the US on Wednesday night.

Asra Hussain Raza, daughter of Indian immigrants in the US, messaged her husband Hamaad Raza, 25, and informed that she would land in 20 minutes as American Eagle Flight 5342 approached Reagan National Airport.

Unfortunately, she did not survive the horrifying crash like the other 66 passengers of the plane.

Her husband of two years, Hamaad, said he had texted his wife a few replies, but that they’d never been received.

Earlier Hamaad reportedly said, “I’m just praying that somebody’s pulling her out of the river right now, as we speak. That’s all I can pray for, I’m just praying to God,” while talking to a US media reporter.

Asra Hussain, a native of Carmel and Indiana, graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management and Policy.

She earned her master’s degree in healthcare management. She is survived by her husband, Hamaad Raza, who also attended IU from 2017 to 2021 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the prestigious Kelley School of Business.

According to her husband, she was returning from a work trip where she was ‘helping to improve a hospital that needed help’.

Hamaad’s words to the US media reflected deep emotion as he expressed, “Life is short”. He urged people to ‘always hug loved ones’.
