Indian family in US welcomes cow for house-warming ceremony

In a heartwarming event, an Indian-origin family brought a cow home for a traditional ritual in Lathrop, California on Sunday.

A viral video shows an Indian family in the US bringing a traditional Indian housewarming ceremony (Grah Pravesh) in San Francisco, featuring a cow.

The embroidered cloth-adorned animal can be seen entering the house, welcomed by the family with food. As per Sanatan Dharma, serving the Cow is equal to serving the Lord. During a housewarming ceremony, it is the Cow that is first taken into the new house to bring prosperity.

At the start of the video, a priest is seen guiding a sacred cow, named ‘Bahula’ into the house. Its body is adorned with vermillion handprints, a traditional red cloth and a flower garland.

A woman of the family could be seen performing puja of the cow while she eats her food in the home.

Reacting to the viral video, a user wrote, “Great guys. You are still keeping Hindu traditions alive on foreign soil. Thank you. It is common practice in South India to bring cows to housewarming ceremonies. It brings good luck. Thank you again.”

“Wow! Lovely. Is this a Diwali custom or a home blessing for special times all year?” another user wrote.
