Indian employed at Singapore airport charged with keeping passenger’s lost AirPods

A 29-year-old Indian national, Sundar Aravinth, employed as an airport auxiliary police officer at Singapore’s, was charged with criminal breach of trust on Friday for keeping a passenger’s lost AirPods.
Aravinth, who was unrepresented in court, stated his intention to plead guilty and admitted to taking the AirPods without considering the consequences.
As per reports, the incident took place on February 4 at Changi Airport Terminal 2, when a passenger accidentally left his AirPods on board an aircraft.
On finding the earbuds, the cabin crew handed them to Aravinth, who was on duty at the time. However, he chose to keep the AirPods for himself instead of handing them over to the lost and found office.
To conceal his actions, Aravinth submitted a photo of his unbranded earbuds to the lost and found office, falsely claiming they were the found items. When the passenger was contacted to confirm his lost property, he recognised that the earbuds were not his. This discrepancy triggered an internal investigation, which ultimately revealed that Aravinth had kept the AirPods. The stolen earbuds were later recovered.
The Indian national, Aravinth is facing charges under Singaporean law, which stipulates that a criminal breach of trust can carry a maximum penalty of seven years in prison, a fine, or both.
According to reports, his case is scheduled for further hearing on April 17.
